Seasonal Tier Wedding Cake

This was my 2013 SC STATE FAIR ENTRY. I placed in 2nd place in the Professional Wedding Cake category. This was my first time entering a cake competition. It was very exciting!

This cake was inspired by the four seasons. Starting from the bottom fall (autumn), winter, spring, and summer. I wanted to make people instead of mice, but I did not have the time. I love making a cake that tells a story. If you look closely the mice will meet during fall and the relationship continues to blossom during the change of seasons. The maple tree changes with the seasons as well.


Between the bottom two tiers I added 1″ inch dummies and covered them with fondant to make them look like bark. The fondant itself is hand painted using americolors food gels and spirits. The mouse was sculpted from gum paste and then dusted for color. The trees were also hand sculpted, and then lightly dusted to high light cracks and shadows. For te tiers spring and summer I tried to match the flowers that bloom during that season. I didn’t realize how difficult it would be to form such teeny tiny flowers. Even though it didn’t win first I am pretty pleased with the way it turned out. Thanks for looking!
